Post I can point to when people ask, “What’s your favorite X?”. I also just generally like seeing people’s best-of lists, as taste preferences tend to overlap.

TV Shows

Dark: Excellently acted, written, produced, and scored, Dark was the best thing I’ve seen all year. Go in blind, keep a sketchpad handy for tracking all of the characters, and definitely watch in the original German with subtitles - NOT the dub. Pro-tip that I wish I’d discovered before the end: use the official Netflix site, which allows you to look up information spoiler-free based on the latest episode you’ve seen.

Black Mirror: Anthology series about how technology will bring out the worst of human nature. As you’d might expect from an anthology, episode quality varies, but the highs are superb. First three seasons were the best, and quality has tanked since Netflix took over, but there are still a few gems in the later seasons.

Best episodes:

  • The Entire History of You
  • USS Callister
  • San Junipero
  • Nosedive

Honorable Mentions:

  • Be Right Back
  • Hated in the Nation
  • Fifteen Million Merits
  • White Christmas

Fleabag: Biting, witty, and intimate.

Battlestar Galactica: The reboot, not the original. Mid-aughts classic that I’ve rewatched countless times, and love deeply.
